ISLAMABAD: The Senate passed the Pakistan General Cosmetics Bill, 2023, under which the Pakistan General Cosmetics Regulatory Authority will be created. This regulatory body will oversee the quality, standard, labeling, and packing of non medicated cosmetic products along with making policies for the development, import, and export of general cosmetics.
The bill also includes added protection to registered trademark and copyright holders of cosmetic products by assigning penal sanctions against counterfeit goods producers with punishment of imprisonment of up to 3 years and fines up to PKR 5 Million, including sealing the premises and confiscating the machinery through which counterfeit products are produced.
