KARACHI: Hanya Haroon, Partner, Ali & Associates, Representative of Pakistan Intellectual Property Rights Association (PIPRA), attended 'The Intersection of IP, Agriculture, and Food Security: Challenges and Solutions’ Panel Discussion, as a Panelist.
The Panel Discussion was moderated by Farrukh Amil, Chairperson Intellectual Property Office (IPO - Pakistan). The panelists also included Khan Mustafa Saleemi, Head of Law, Patents and Compliance, BAYER Pakistan, Dr. Syeda Hoor-ul-Ain, TISC/ORIC Director, University of Karachi, Professor Imran Ahmed, Head, Panjwani Hisar Water Institute, Karachi.
During the discourse, the necessity for optimizing water resource management was highlighted, with a particular emphasis on its profound impact on food security and agricultural sustainability. The conversation extended to the education of farmers, both on a smaller scale and within large corporations, underscoring the need for comprehensive strategies to ensure sustainable agricultural practices.
Moreover, the panelists emphasized the critical role of collaboration between the Academia, Government Sector, Private Sector, and Legal Fraternity in raising the awareness of Intellectual Property Rights and its enforcement as pivotal for the growth of Pakistan’s economy.
