Representatives from Ali & Associates were invited to give an informative session on Intellectual Property law at College of Business Management (CBM) on 12th November 2015. Associates Haniya Haroon and Aly Hassam alongwith Executive Client Services Owais Aftab spoke at the session.
The session was addressed to students pursuing a bachelors degree in business administration from CBM, with Intellectual Property law being a part of their course on Entrepreneurship. The representatives explained the basics of trademarks, copyrights, design and patents before delving into a detailed discussion on the subject matter.
Real examples of business endeavors were given such as Kolachi, Khaadi and Kapray, all of which have expanded the magnitude of their business interests exponentially in a relatively short amount of time. Their emphasis on protecting their intellectual property was highlighted and illustrated as being of utmost importance for every corporation which wishes to establish a name for itself in the national and international market.
Examples of the imitators of FMCG companies were also given, with a key focus on the illegal activities of S.M Foods and Gibs to serve as an example.
The session lasted for an hour and a half and was met with a lot of enthusiasm by all those present. "I wanted to teach the students this way rather than from the book alone" said one of the teacher, glad to have exposed her students to an interactive session with experienced individuals in the field - an experience which books alone cannot provide.
The proactive response of all those present yielded many questions for the representatives which were answered with zeal and clarity, making the otherwise challenging field of Intellectual Property law more accessible and easier to approach for the students.
